When the facade of St. Pieterstraat 34 was modernised, this stylised Tudor rose was repositioned at an awkward height and only then was the caption AND THE ROSE added.
It is not clear why this strange text was chosen at the time. In the past the house was simply called "the rose".

Previous location: Between two windows

In Maastricht there are quite a few gable stones with an image of a rose. Flowers, stars and animals were quite popular as house names in those days.
