Even though it looks like a hunting horn, in the archives it is mentioned as a horn and also as a post horn.
This horn comes from the Kleine Gracht, where it was discovered in 1952 in the rear building of no. 30, bricked into the side wall.
In 1651 there was talk of "a certain house called the horn located on Kleine Gracht".
Later this building was a station of the Royal Horse Post, hence the post horn.
The simple, austere design of the stone hints at a high age.
There were several post horse stations in the city, including for example this one at Jodenstraat 8.
