This large crucifix is listed as a war memorial. However, this is a false assumption.
Indeed,the crucifix may have been placed on 4 August 1940 during the war, but it was made before the war in 1939 by sculptor Jean Weerts on behalf of the Catholic Committee 'Action for God', section: parish of Saint Matthew.
War or no war, it was alledgedly placed in 1940 to promote the catholic faith.
So you could rightly call it a mission cross.
Below the statue, on a separate stone, is the text:
THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU MORE THAN I DO
