At Markt 1 we see a small stone with a figure resting on an anchor. With the approval of the Maastricht city council A. Minis bought this small stone in 1953 from art dealer Gasselink in Amsterdam.

Hope is traditionally the underlying symbolic meaning of the anchor, namely the hope of a safe return. This is why you often come across this type of image in places where there was shipping, such as Amsterdam, where the stone below also comes from.
